Tags for Bags Program

Need occasional extra room for household trash? The City of Houston’s Tags for Bags program lets residents set out one extra bag or box per sticker on their regularly scheduled collection day.

What a Tag Covers
  • One tag = one extra bag or box of household garbage placed at the curb on your normal collection day.
  • Set‑out window: place items at the curb between 6:00 p.m. the day before and 6:00 a.m. on collection day.
  • Weight limit: keep each extra bag at or below 40 lbs.
  • Yard trimmings do not require tags: set out grass clippings, leaves, and small branches per City yard‑waste rules on your garbage day.
  • Safety: hazardous waste and certain materials are not accepted in household garbage; follow the City’s garbage collection guidance for what cannot go in curbside trash.
How to Buy Tags
  • Online (recommended): Purchase through the City’s secure payment portal.
  • Mail order: Download, complete, and mail the Tags for Bags Service Request Form with payment.
