Residential Recycling Centers

Residents may use the depositories free of charge up to four times per month. To ensure service, residents should arrive at least 30 minutes before closing and no later than 15 minutes before closing.

General Rules

  1. Residents may use the facilities up to four (4) times per month (once per week).
  2. No loitering on the property.
  3. No alcohol or drugs allowed. Violators may be asked to leave and reported to the appropriate authorities.
  4. No profanity or inappropriate language.
  5. No salvaging or scavenging of materials.
  6. Residents who are disruptive to staff or other residents will be asked to leave.

PROOF OF ADDRESS REQUIREMENTS

To drop off bulk waste or tree waste, residents must show:

  • A current Texas-issued ID (Driver’s License, DPS ID, LTC, or Consulate ID)
  • Residents must provide a utility bill (power, water, or gas) from the current month or previous two months. The address must match their state‑issued ID. Electronic bills are accepted.
    NOTE: The address on both documents must match.

If no utility bill is available, residents may provide a current lease or rental agreement for a City of Houston address. The address must match their state‑issued ID.

Property owners whose primary residence is outside Texas and who do not have a Texas ID must show a current property tax bill; the name on the tax bill must match their photo ID.

Out‑of‑state students attending Houston universities may use a current student ID instead of a utility bill.

Non-accepted items

  • Extension cords
  • Bulk items/furniture: Sheds, storage bins, pools, etc.
  • Wiring/string lights
  • Hazardous, toxic, or infectious waste
  • Rubber materials: tubes, water hoses, rubber gloves
Trash from commercial haulers or from any commercial vehicle (including rented commercial vehicles) will not be accepted.

Acceptable Materials

RECYCLABLES
  • Aluminum cans
  • Cardboard
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Magazines and newspapers
  • Steel and tin cans
BULK ITEMS
  • Mattresses
  • Tree waste (leaves must be in compostable bags)
  • Concrete
  • Junk waste (loose materials, such as shingles, must be bagged)
  • Furniture (limit two large items such as couches)
  • Refrigerators (tag required indicating Freon removal)
  • Household appliances (stoves, washers, dryers)
SPECIAL ITEMS
  • Aerosol cans
  • Cartons (shelf stable and refrigerated)
  • Plastic labeled with numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7
  • Up to 5 passenger tires per visit; maximum 10 per month
  • Used motor oil (up to 5 quarts)
