Update: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 13300 Katy Freeway

March 20, 2026 - Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in a fatal hit and run crash that occurred at 13300 Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) about 3 a.m. on February 21.

The suspect, Dennis Xavier Arguello-Acosta, 22, is charged with failure to stop and render aid accident involving death and tampering with evidence in the 176th Criminal District Court. A booking photo of Arguello-Acosta is attached to this news release. 

The victim is identified as Kenneth Lewis, 51.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M. Barrow and Officer R. Guzman reported:

A male exited his vehicle to assist two other vehicles involved in a previous crash on the freeway. The male, later identified as Fort Bend County Deputy Lewis, was then struck by an unknown vehicle which fled the scene. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the male to an area hospital in critical condition. Doctors pronounced him deceased on February 23.

With the assistance from the FBI and DPS, the suspect was identified as Dennis Xavier Arguello-Acosta. After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney's Office he was charged for his role in this incident on March 19 and booked into the Harris County Jail on March 20.

HPD extends it's deepest condolences to Deputy Lewis' family, friends and community.

“The job of law enforcement is one of service and sacrifice," said Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan. “The hardest and most heartbreaking moments in this profession come when we lose one of our own. Deputy Kenneth Lewis was a valiant officer. Acting under the color of law, he paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving his community.”

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office will provide more details at a news conference on Monday (March 23) at 10 a.m. at 1840 Richmond Parkway, Richmond, TX.
