March 02, 2026 - Houston police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred in the 7400 block of South Freeway (State Highway 288) about 8:25 p.m. on Sunday (March 1).

The identity of the deceased male, 66, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer K. Hines reported:

A male pedestrian was attempting to walk eastbound across the main lanes of the freeway at the above address and cross the freeway when he was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling southbound. The male was then struck by a black Toyota Tacoma also traveling southbound. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the male deceased at the scene.

The first vehicle left the scene without rendering aid.

The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene, did not show signs of intoxication, and was questioned and released.
