August 11, 2025 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 9920 Porto Rico Road about 4:30 p.m. on September 27, 2023.

The male suspect, 18, was referred to the Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities on a murder charge. He was a juvenile at the time of the incident. Names and booking photos of juvenile suspects are not releasable.

The victim has been identified as Alberto Navez-Ortiz, 18.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives R. Waterwall and C. Vaughn reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at the above address and found the victim unresponsive in the driver's seat of a pickup truck. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the victim, later identified as Mr. Navez-Ortiz, deceased.

According to witnesses, three to four unknown males fled the scene in a gray, four-door sedan of unknown make or model.

Detective identified a male as the suspect in this incident. He was arrested last Wednesday (Aug. 6) on unrelated charges. He was subsequently charged for his role in this incident.
