Department of Neighborhoods

Good Neighbor Program

The Good Neighbor Program has reached full capacity. Applications submitted at this time will be placed on a waitlist and reviewed as space becomes available.

Using the power of community and partnerships to help others

The Good Neighbor program is a partnership with Career and Recovery Resources (CRR) and City of Houston Department of Neighborhoods to provide lawn care services to residents who are 65 years of age and older, veterans or widows / widowers of veterans and disabled residents in participating Houston Council Districts.

The program currently operates within the City of Houston City Limits. If you are not sure which council district the property resides in, you can find out by calling 3-1-1 or using the map on the Find My Council Member webpage.

How It Works
We provide lawn care services once a month during the growing season (March-November) to applicants that meet the qualifications. The services are provided free of charge thanks to our partnerships and grant funds. When the grant funds expire the services will end. Once a completed application is submitted, we will check the eligibility requirements and request supporting documents for the applicant to be approved. (Please allow 3-5 business days for our team to get back to you) If the applicant is approved, we will add the property to Career and Recovery Resources schedule to receive services once a month. (Please allow 15-25 days for you to receive services if approved)

Applicants mut reapply every Fiscal Year to continue to receive services.

Services Offered
The service offered is for basic lawn care including lawn mowing and edging. CRR does not provide full landscaping services. They cannot accommodate all requests for property maintenance.
