City of Houston to host 9-11 Remembrance at City Hall with Mayor Whitmire
September 8, 2025 -- Our community is invited to join Mayor John H. Whitmire in honor of the lives of those lost 24 years ago and the heroic actions of first responders.
On September 11, 2025, in the Legacy Room at City Hall, Mayor Whitmire will be joined by Mohammad Koochack, Assistant Chief of the Houston Fire Department, and Victoria d’Angelo-Thompkins, retired NYPD Detective and U.S. Navy Veteran. The ceremony will honor the loss of life at the World Trade Center in 2001 and celebrate the unwavering freedom we continue to cherish as a nation.
Mayor Whitmire said, “On this somber day, I invite families and friends to join me in honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost. That terrible day brought heartbreak, but it also brought Americans together in unity and patriotism. Houstonians are proud of our country, and when we come together, we strengthen both our community and our nation.”
The ceremony will be emceed by ABC 13 anchor, Samica Knight. The Presentation of Colors will be led by Houston Fire Department Color Guard, the National Anthem will be sung by Scotty Frazier, United States Marine Corps Iraq Veteran, the Invocation will be led by Chaplain Tyler Hicks with the Houston Fire Department, and the closing prayer will be presented by Chaplain Vincent John, with the Houston Police Department.
Mayor Whitmire invites the community to join him in remembering the victims, survivors, and heroes of 9-11.
